Who doesn’t need a cheap beach bag to throw items in and head to the beach….aaaahh the sun, sand and surf!!!
The woven rugs at the Dollar Tree was the perfect thing to throw together such a bag. It took just one rug, one infinity scarf and a large needle and thread (I used embroidery thread)!
I gathered all the supplies together!
I cut the infinity scarf apart where it was sewed together (actually used 2 infinity scarves because I wanted the strap to be strong). I then folded the ends of the scarf to where it was about 1 inch wide. I folded the rug in half and then pinned the end of the folded end of the scarf inside the rug along the far outside edge. I then did the same step to the other side of the rug. I then realized that I wanted the fringe to be on the side of the bag so I unpinned right at the top where the fringe was and folded the fringe over to the outside. See below.
After I got the bag all pinned together I whipped stitched the sides together making sure that the stitch went through the scarf also. You can see the stitch in the picture of above and in the picture below. The picture below is the completed bag showing the stitch and if you look close you can see hints of the scarf between the two sides of the rug.
